If You Want Something Only You Can Make It A Reality
Ever since I can remember I've wanted to perform. In grade school, I stood in front of the class and made my friends laugh. I watched movies and impersonated all the actors I loved. I have always been someone who has excelled at playing the fool for others. In high school, my heart bled for the underdog because I recognized his pain in my own.
In college, I felt my soul constantly pushing me to step up and become a leader, but I was young, stubborn, and didn’t know what to do with it. I tried to get by unscathed but realized—I wasn’t leaving a mark either. And when I didn't pass my evals I couldn’t shove the feelings away. I was confused, frustrated, and disappointed.
I spent most of my life afraid of the man I needed to become.
Because I didn’t know how to own who I was or stand for my convictions, I decided to connect myself to friends who possessed qualities I liked. I wanted to be strong, confident, outgoing, and reliable. So I became those things, but it required me to completely transform my way of thinking.
I couldn’t keep wasting time playing it small, afraid I would make the wrong move. And though the voice in my head was terrified that who I really was wasn't good enough to make it. The song in my heart became a deafening war cry.
Who I am now
Writing about my past feels like another lifetime but it has shaped who I am now. I'm now an Acting coach, mentor, and writer. Many aspects of my life have changed. But most importantly, now I love every ounce of what I do.
I’ve taken ownership of my side of the street. I don’t worry about what other people think about me. I don't worry about trying to do it all right because there is no such thing as a right way. I trust myself to make the choices that are best for my life, and I don’t spend my energy questioning myself afterward. I’ve developed a healthy balance between using my mind and my heart.
Don't let this lead you to believe that my life isn’t still a work in progress. With my acting and in my writing, I still fight to take risks and accept new challenges. I’m a forever student, that has learned to revel in life’s simplicities.
